Partners from Prague
As small business owners, we understand how essential it is to support other local businesses. With our owners Brandon and Kean being locals to the area, they chose to partner with Praha Bohemian Bakery co-owners Markéta and Bill Johnson to provide customers with a brew and a bite.
A little over two years ago Markéta and her husband and Bill were welcomed to the town of Crozet as small business owners just a few buildings down from Crozet Pizza. Markéta was born and raised in Prague and cites her Czech heritage as the inspiration behind Praha’s main recipes, like Koláče - a flat and round mildly sweet pastry made from yeast dough with a fruit filled center, and Klobásník - Polish sausage swaddled in sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in a savory yeast dough topped with a spicy garnish, typically enjoyed warm with mustard.
Not only will you taste a bit of Prague in Crozet, but you can also enjoy traditional American pastries like muffins, chocolate chip cookies, and zucchini bread. Though, you may not often see their friendly faces out front with the barista’s, rest assured they are baking with láska (love) behind the kitchen doors.
Praha currently stocks our pastry case with homemade sea salt chocolate chip cookies, dark chocolate almond biscotti, and bagels along with their signature whipped cream cheese. Their bagels follow the traditional cooking method: slowly fermented, boiled, and then placed on bagel boards and cooked both upside down and then right side up to create the ideal texture.
On the shelves at Praha you can restock on bags of our roasted beans and enjoy their own creations of Kinfolk espresso drinks. Marketa and Bill began Praha Bohemian Bakery from a labor of love and for a way to share the Czech culture and passion for baking within their community. We at Crucible are pleased to be partnered with a fellow Veteran owned small business that is forged in tradition, such as we are.
